I have a few things going on here, first I have a program that only runs in dos. I have only dos6.22 installed on this machine.
the program has print a feature and i can not exit the program to print or the data will be lost. What i want is to beable to type in the dos say prnt.exe file and say save to txtfile on c: or save to txtfile on a:. and when i get that figured out I am going to try to connect threw nics from a windows machine to see if i can see and move the file over to the windows machine and print from windows as a txt file in notepad or word pad. this has been on going and have done alot of research i have even used windowsme for usb support and a prnt file but winme is so flaky and glitchy that i am done wiht it.

If your program 'prints' to the screen, you may get by with:
prog.exe > somefile
If it prints to a printer port, you will probably need a 3rd party printer port capture utility.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.M2

Suggest you look for a dos utility program that automatically saves print to a disc file, rather than trying to use a dos command, which are not that comprehensive.
There used to be many of these programs around at the time.
Good Luck - Keep us posted.

prnt2file.exe for dos is what i am going to try when i get a chance. i found alot of other programs but they all installed on windows only. if that works instead of saving to floppy i wil try to connect threw nic. and either map or have a file saved straight to the saved file to pull it over and print. any one been there and knows it works or not can let me know anytime now.

Look for prn2file.COM from Ziff-Davis.

Hi the prn2file works sometimes.
if 2 files are sent to be printed one right after the other the pnr2file will stop responding and the pc must be restarted. also if there is no floppy disk in a: when try to print then put a floppy in then try to print again the prn2file stops responding. Any body have advice or a work around. i think the dos program that i am running takes controll of the keyboard, to bad i was hopeing to make a hot key.

Which one are you using?

prn2file.com 1.0
Some reason the file stops gathering print data if the spot its directed to a: doesnt have a floppy in it, put in floppy and try again ,,, nothing, the batch file must error out. until pc is restarted.

Since it's a TSR, the order of loading and/or other programs may be critical.
Try an explicit file:
prn2file c:\temp\my.txt
Maybe it will let go of the floppy.

yeah thanks for youre response.
anyone have an idea how to keep the program going?
autoexec.bat a:prnt2file temp.txtstops gathering data if a floppy is forgotten one time. the program that is running can not be exited to do more dos commands and looses data if pc is restarted.
