Have 486 puter and while downloading Dos 6.22, the install stopped, and now all I get is message No ROM BASIC System halted every time I boot up. Help what gives

Your DOS install failed. Your hard drive isn't bootable.
Your BIOS is first trying to boot from a drive which isn't working. Then it tries to run BASIC from a ROM chip but your computer doesn't have the ROM basic chip so your error is displayed.
This was standard 20 years ago during the heyday of the IBM PC. Few computers have the BIOS that contains the ROM basic code any longer.

I believe that Preston meant to say that you need to plug the hard drive into a working system, and install DOS from there. Then, returning the drive. This may be a problem if you don't have any old systems lying around, or don't know someone that does.
No, he more probably meant that you should try to install again. If you can't boot from a diskette, you'll have to do as Ryan suggests, but as long as you can boot, you should be able to install. tip: run FDISK to check if there are any partitions, and make sure they are active.
