can anybody give me the disadvantages of DOS programs in terms of database?

Well, since DOS is only FAT16, and will only support up to a 2 GB partition. (with 2 GB file size restrictions also), you database cannot be extremly large. This limit would not be an object if you are keeping a database for yourself or a small company (for non-scientific purposes), but would easily be exceeded by a large corporate database or scientific database.

ROM-DOS 7.x,FreeDOS and MS-DOS
7.x/8.0 all support FAT32.
