Comment:

I am using DOS to make it recognise USB harddisk. The method I am using is
device=usbaspi.sys /w/v
device=di1000dd.sys.
It has successfully detect the harddisk, however, it show the harddisk is "not format". I try to use a fully formatted harddisk, the same error appear. I try to format or fdisk using USB DOS, the PC just hang on verify. Please help.

What's the size of your USB HD? What format is it, FAT16, FAT32, or NTFS? Also, what's the version of your DOS?

If you formatted FAT in XP, quite often M$-DOS will not read, why I do not know but it has happened to me, I always format under MS-DOS if I want to share with XP.....

x86,

>> If you formatted FAT in XP, quite often M$-DOS will not read, why I do not know

I believe it's because the drive has been formatted as FAT32 drive or LBA/Int13X partition in XP, and at the same time the version of your DOS is too old to read it. Most newer versions of DOS(e.g. MS-DOS 7.10 and ROM-DOS 7.10) recognize FAT32 drives and LBA/Int13X partitions, but not the outdated versions of DOS(e.g. MS-DOS 6.x).

Wong,

What's the version of your USBASPI.SYS, 1.07, 2.01 or 2.06?

P.S. USBASPI.SYS won't work on Win98 DOS box, it only works in PURE DOS, such as MS-DOS 6.x/7.x(i.e. no Windows GUI is running)!!

Wengier,

I am using pure DOS (no GUI). It work fine with USB Apacer handy drive but not for USB harddisk. Below are the message I got from the boot up:

Have you tried the later Panasonic USB ASPI drivers?? for links to downloads see:

As to my earlier response whilst formatting a Flash Media 32MB device which is ATA66 complient in XP, the FAT table was not recogised as FAT 16 by pure DOS any version.

Well, Wong is using the latest version of USBASPI.

Maybe your USB HD is not supported by USBASPI + DI1000DD.SYS combination. Have you tried any other combination such as USBASPI + ASPIDISK or DUSE 4.9 by itself? If it still doesn't work, then.. Well, I hope there is really a *UNIVERSAL* USB driver for DOS....

I have tried everything mentioned above and seen not to work. I have also tried with three different harddisks and still having the same error.

That's because most free USB drivers for DOS have limitations or compatibility issues. Then your best bet is USB4DOS:

Hi!

Have you tried to delete all partitions using FDISK, reboot, manually create partitions and format?
