Is there any way to tell what version of DOS was installed when the hard drive says insert a boot disk and hit any key. I know the drive used to be a boot disk but I don't know what version of DOS. COMMAND.COM 52,925 3-10-93 6:00a

Yes, the time, 6.00a, means the file is from MS-DOS 6.00. Your question is a little confusing, but you may have a problem on the hard drive such as corrupt boot files. The way I understand your question is when booting to the hard drive you are told to insert a boot disk even though you know the hard drive used to be booted to. If this is right, what you want to do is compare Command.COM times on the boot disk AND on drive C: to see that they both have 6:00a for creation time. If they do, enter SYS C:. If this does not work, enter C:\DOS\SYS C:
