Comment: Looking for a utility to view a nic card MAC address from a basic boot disk. Without loading the nic card drivers or anything speical. I know 3com has one but I need something more generic.

Reply: (edit)It's been a while since I've used it, but I think Microsoft Diagnostics has this ability. Just type MSD at a dos prompt.

Reply: (edit)and failing that, the card manufacturer will probably have utilities on their website that will do this and more. I've got Acer aln325 cards and I even found a utility that will re-write the card's eeprom if (or when) it becomes corrupted.

Reply: (edit)I'd written a MS-DOS based util 'PICNIC 2002' this program reads the NIC's MACADDRESS but it only supports PCI NIC's ACCTON, IBM, INTEL, COMPAQ, 3COM, REALTEK It loads Novell Netware 5.x Win32 drivers. LOAD A:\NIOS.EXE LOAD A:\NBIC32.NLM LOAD A:\LSLC32.NLM LOAD A:\CMSM.NLM LOAD A:\ETHERTSM.NLM LOAD A:\.LAN FRAME=ETHERNET_II

Reply: (edit)We have the same problem with reading Mac-add's. I'm also looking for a quick way to start a Dos boot disk and read the Mac-address. Is this PICNIC a free tool?
