OS: IBM PC DOS 7.1
CPU/Ram: P4
Model/Manufacturer: Dell Dimension E510
Comment:
I am having trouble with an IBM PC DOS 7.1 boot disk. My system has a USB keyboard and mouse but I'm afraid that I am missing a driver that will attach these devices. Am I correct in that assumption? Do such drivers exist for this OS? Please help.

Tom

USB Keyboard and Mouse are enabled by the Motherboard BIOS Settings, if the BIOS has that option...

Thanks for your input. The system is a Dell Dimension 5150/E510 with Windows XP Pro,and is currently operating properly with USB keyboard and mouse. I'm booting with a PC DOS 7.1 floppy disk with Ghost to clone the current SATA HD to a new WD 160GB SATA drive. After the system boots, neither the keyboard or mouse will respond. Nothing has changed in the BIOS, so that's why my question about USB drivers. Any other thoughts?

Tom

Well if you are using PC-DOS from GHOST it is a Symantec Version (PCDOS 7.1 revision0)licensed from IBM, which is enhanced to work with Windows FAT32/NTFS etal but probably will have issues with modern motherboard chipsets etcetcetc.

Afaik only Mass Storage and Optical Drives are supported by the available commercial USB Drivers.

I would suggest that you look at True Image which does not rely on outdated PC-DOS but uses Linux as it base O/S:

"Legacy USB support" (or similar) is probably not enabled in BIOS Setup, so USB keyboard and mouse will not work without the right USB drivers (which do not exist).
