Hello,
I have a Dell E1505 and I am trying to get DOS to load USB drivers. I was able to create a DOS boot disk with loading USB drivers by following instructions from http://computing.net/dos/wwwboard/forum/15115.html. This diskette works on my Dell OptiPlex GX620 and Dimension 8200 desktops but when I use the same disk on my E1505 it hangs at "scanning USB devices." Usbaspi.sys is able to see the UHCI and EHCI controllers and it even finds the USB mouse but beyond that it just hangs during scanning. I tried with and without mouse, floppy, various option switch settings.
I tried other methods of USB driver for DOS as outlined here http://www.bootdisk.com/usb.htm but with no success.
Has anyone been able to load DOS USB driver for this laptop?
Here is my config.sys and autoexec.bat.
config.sys
device=himem.sys /testmem:off
dos=high,umb
files=30
buffers=40
lastdrive=z
device=oakcdrom.sys /d:CD1
device=ramfd.sys
device=usbaspi.sys /v /e
device=di1000dd.sysautoexec.bat
mscdex.exe /d:CD1 /l:x /m:16 /v
uhci.exe (for USB mouse)Thanks

inverto,
Thanks for the help. I will try once I get a moment.
After re-reading my original post, I should have explained what I am trying to accomplish. The DOS boot disk is meant for troubleshooting when my XP system fails to boot. The USB driver is for accessing external hard drive or a flash drive so that I can transfer files to/from external hard drive to internal hard drive.
Thanks
