I have a sony vaio laptop which ran win 98.
it crashed. hd has bad sectors at 38%. doesnt load windows. i see my directories through dos.
can i connect to the network through dos and copy the dirs to my wondows system? the files are many and in multiple directories with file sizes in the 30-200 MB(i have a home network with a server 2003 XP with static/dynamic ip address)i dont know the first thing in dos networking. do i need drivers for my xJack 3com pcmcia lan card for dos? can i use the normal cat5 cable to my small 10base hub?
help please :)

Read through the NETWORKING forum for information. You should be able to set up a bootable Windows diskette with network drivers that will allow you to transfer all the files accross the network to an XP server. If you can not find the answers and sites with help, ask and maybe someone can give you directions to find what you need to get it working with XP. You will need DOS drivers for the 3com card.
However, with that much corruption on your disk, you might have a lot of errors trying to copy all those files. The Directory structure may be OK, but there may be a lot of errors within files.
You might want to pull the disk and get a good one working and setup first.

Thank you JacK
Thank you x86 !!!
very elegant program!
my pcmcia is recognized and now i got a d:\net prompt.
