Hi all,

I'm trying to set up a DOS laptop to test a PCMCIA(Cardbus) USB adapter card in a production environment. Using windows is not desirable for many reasons.

I have spent a couple of days with FreeDos and the Panasonic usbaspi.sys driver which is supposed to locate USB devices that are plugged into a PCMCIA port. It will detect USB storage devices in the native laptop USB port but at least on the laptop I'm testing (TI 45XX PCMCIA controller) it does not see USB devices plugged into a CardBus USB adapter.

So at this point I realized that IBM PC DOS has PCMCIA support (hopefully CardBus). I'm assuming it does not have USB support built in but the Panasonic USB driver or similar may do the trick.

At this point given that I have wasted lots of time already does anyone have any idea what the chance of success is with PC DOS + a DOS USB driver (non of which have any support in this type of application).

I just thought I'd mention that Linux has PCMCIA support and I'm guessing it also has USB support but I have never played with Linux. We could pay someone to do it but we'd have to have a reasonable chance of success at the outset.

Thanks

PC-DOS7 & PC-DOS2000 has better 16bit PCMCIA support and no USB Support, the only manufacturer currently active is APSoft:
