Video out of sync in dos mode

While booting up or in dos mode, my screen looks distorted, scrambled, simply out of sync. Once WinXP finish loading the logon screen & enter windows, the problem is resolved until I boot up or enter dos again.
I believe this is a Dos Mode resolution issue. Does anyone know how to change the resolution in dos?

I’m running WinXP SP1, ATI AIW RADEON 7500 Video Card with the digital output of the card connect to the digital connection of my Dell 1503FP (Flat Panel) monitors. Any input or help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

The problem is caused by your flat panel monitor.
The resolution of the monitor (=1024*7xx) does not fit exactly to DOS full screen resolution(=80 * 25 char = 640 * 400 pixels)
Therefore you see the distorted characters.

I know of two possible solutions:
1. If you run XP in a DOS-box, do not use full screen mode, but only a window

2. Use your old cathode tube monitor instead of the flat panel. I did that myself.
