DOS picture viewer

OS: MS-DOS or FreeDOS
CPU/Ram: 1GHz+

Comment:
Can anyone recommend a picture viewer for DOS? I need it for a very rudimentary purpose: To display a single image, in either JPG, PNG, or GIF format, in DOS. The simpler, the better!

The exact environment can be any version of MS-DOS 6.22 up, or FreeDOS 1.0.

Freeware is preferred, but at this point, I'll consider anything reasonable.

The reason I am asking this question here is that I've tried a bunch of viewers already, and can't get a single one to work.

Well, I don't know what your difficulty is - things "don't work" in a number of ways, and the key to troubleshooting is in the details.

As a description, "didn't work" leaves a lot to be desired - much like the posters who cheerfully report: "I got an error message" (and leave it at that)

Thanks for the smartassy response. No kidding "didn't work" isn't descriptive. I realize that. The reason I didn't elaborate is that I don't care to--I need something that "just works, always". It's a simple DOS application, it should simply require "exename imagename" to work...and other people I support will be running it. I can't have them saying "It doesn't work". Because, well, then I'd be in a position to be as snarky as you were, and I just couldn't deal with that sort of irony.

Heh - 'snarky' you say? For someone who's made so very many posts here, why is it you can't even figure out what question to ask??

You're obviously not looking for DOS viewers, since you claim to have tried a variety

Here's a clue: they all work, the problem is pretty obviously on your end

"The reason I didn't elaborate is that I don't care to"

Don't sweat it, 'Mr support' - I've a low tolerance for the dim - even less when they rear up on their hind legs with 'attitude' (or a feeble attempt at such)

That would be ironical indeed if folks were actually looking to you for answers - - good luck with that

If I know the answer I'll tell you the answer, and if I don't, I'll just respond, cleverly

Well... ok then.

We're all volunteers here, so smarting off like that is really uncalled for (and makes everbody cranky)

... already linked to - and a good one (but what if it "doesn't work"?)

I usually use QPV. The download file is QPV17E.ZIP. Google that and you'll find a site. I've had problems with it on some video cards, especially newer ones. Sometimes editing the qpv.cfg file to reduce the available video types will help.

It's a sure sign that a forum has outlived its usefulness (but not the only one) when the responders far & away outnumber the petitioners - the OP has buggered off long ago, yet the replies continue (and begin to repeat)

... I guess it's all "for posterity"

To dopey George - read the other replies before adding your own, in case it's been covered. To do otherwise indicates you feel your answer has greater value than the others - - which is, y'know, pretty nervy, and shows an unhealthy degree of self-involvement

What exactly is happening when you try to use one of these pic viewer apps? Any error messages?
