Subject: Dos Pb with Notebook and DD Usb 2 OS: Dos (Win 98) CPU/Ram: Celeron 1,7 Ghz with 256
|
Comment: Hi, I have this message with external dd connected to usb 2 of a recent NoteBook (Celeron 1,7 Ghz) when I boot on Dos (Win 98) : "No device found", my external DD usb 2 is logically recognized, but is very slow with "Ghost 2003". I have a speed of 10 Mo/Mn. This same boot and same Ghost 2003 works very well with Desktop (Amd 1,5 Ghz with Pci Card Usb 2 and with speed = 500 Mo/Mn for creating image ghost) and another old notebook (Pentium 600 Mhz with CardBus Usb 2 and with speed = 200 Mo/Mn for creating image ghost). Thank you for a response.

Reply: (edit)What set of drivers are you using - ASPIEHCI.SYS or something else? It would seem to indicate driver compatibility with your different systems USB host chipsets - I would suggest trying a different driver combination to enable DOS to recognize you USB disk drives: 1. USBASPI.SYS & DI1000DD.SYS 2. DUSE 4.4 Check out this link for some instructions: http://www.computing.net/dos/wwwboard/forum/13447.html

Reply: (edit)Hi madmaxUSB, This is the result of my test with 2 Image Ghost of 689 Mo and 661 Mo : In fact with my recent Notebook Medion with 3 port Usb 2 and Chipset Usb Sis 7001, I don't need Usb drivers (recognized by the bios on Dos (win 98)), else I have this errors : With "UsbAspi.sys" of Medialogic and Panasonic I have : Error : EHCI memory mapped I/O can not assigned and Error : Pci UHCI/OHCI/EHCI Usb host controller not found. With Norton Ghost : Driver "ASPIEHCI.SYS /int /all" I have "No Device Found". So For Image Backup with Norton Ghost 2003 on the internal disk, I have between 250 Mo to 300 Mo/Mn, and for restoring I have between 500 to 550 Mo/Mn. It's fast. But with external disk usb 2, I have between 10 Mo and 20 Mo/Mn for image backup of 1,3 Go (between 3 to 4 hours). How to slow ? Because on my desktop I have 500 Mo/Mn for image backup and 1 Go/Mn for image restoring on external dd usb 2. I contact the support of Medion, who don't know "Dos Operating", because it's a young ingenior. I think that this is a bug of the Bios (that is "PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0"). With Command Dos "Copy" from Internal Disk to External Usb 2 Disk it's too fast. It the same in Windows Xp Copy and Paste ( 1 Mn for 1 Go). What is your opinion. Thank you for a response.

Reply: (edit)Hi, My external dd usb 2 is recognized by "Pc Cloneur Expert" (French Version of "True Image" of Acronis). I can make backup image of partition on Windows Xp (on task bar) and restore partition by reboot with virtual Os (without Cd or disket) which seems to "Unix" and after restore, come back to "Windows Xp". Enjoy!!!!

Reply: (edit)Hi, After most investigations, My problem of slow rate for restoring with Dos is due to "PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0". In fact I dont need drivers, because the bios hold all the peripherics connected to my Notebook "Medion". And in the documentation of "Phoenix Bios", it is indicated that an usb 2.0 pheripheric is recognized but the speed is limited to 12 Mb/s (Like Usb 1.1). This is a scandal, because on the notebook box, it is indicated 3 ports USB 2.0. That is my reason to inform the people community.
