Reply: (edit)<Spec> The Latitude C640--a refresh of another Dell business-focused laptop, the Latitude C610--has a modular bay located conveniently on the front that can hold an optical drive (in this instance, a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combination drive) or the included floppy drive. Most DOS operating systems are installed via a floppydisk install set, with disk 1 being bootable to transfer the OS to the harddrive. Do you have the 'included floppy drive' unit? Reply: (edit)Disk 1 of a dos set will boot and start setup for you. Just put it in the floppy drive and start the computer. Skip

Reply: (edit)My, what a waste of disk drive space. As you will have to re-FDISK the drive and create a primary bootable partition of only 2GB and then format it for DOS before you can install it. Unless you were planning to install a DOS only version of Windows 98/ME, which supports FAT32 partitions.

Reply: (edit)Why only 2GB? And why a DOS only version of Windows 98/ME?? This "DOS" is NOT a installable version of DOS. JackG almost always gives incorrect information about this. Most newer versions of DOS support FAT32 and larger HD, such as FreeDOS and ROM-DOS 7.10. See this page for more information: http://newdos.yginfo.net/dosfat32.htm --------------- Long Live DOS!

Reply: (edit)What I will say is. Is this is an example of insufficient information from the original poster. (Who is the only one not to make a comment I notice again!) Yes the harddrive size does make a difference. But JackG you are making assumptions based on lack of facts! Last Dell Latitude user I dealt with had purchased his laptop second hand WITHOUT the Floppy Drive!!
