Try pressing Alt-Enter, or Alt-Tab. What version of Windows are you using? 95, 98, ME, or XP?

Only BAT files, or all DOS based programs? It could very well be a virus. Try scanning the hard drive.

Hmm, right click on a BAT file and then click on Edit. See if there's some suspicious code in there. I dunno, this is the only thing I can see that could cause a problem.

Pasha,

I don't know if you problems have been solve or not, but here is a tips for you.

Just remember this, DOS Program is design for only 16bits apps, windows 98 is 32bits apps, There are some program written in DOS eventually sometimes will work under Windows 98 and there are some will NOT Willing to work. There is away that you can try. Right Click on your Desktop, Select new --> Shortcut --> Click on Brown and go to the Drive and the Folder that contain the Executed file like : .exe, bat or .com when you are you creating the shortcut, right click on the shortcut that you just finished, Select Properties in there it have an option run this as MS-DOS program. Try it out see if it work or not.

Good Luck.

You probably have corrupt files in Windows 98. Sometimes the version of Windows 98 2nd Ed I am using right now gets corrupt and will not copy files or access Drive A from within windows. My solution is to reinstall from a backup. The problem seems to be contained in whatever file is a long filename addition to command.com when Windows loads.

CLICK ON THE START BAR SELECT PROGRAMS THEN RIGHT CLICK ON MS-DOS PROMPT AND DRAG IT TO THE DESKTOP THEN SELECT CREATE SHORT CUT. THEN RIGHT CLICK ON THE SHORT CUT AND SELECT PROPERTIES, THEN CLICK ON PROGRAMS AND THEN CLICK ON ADVANCED, IF THERE IS A CHECK WHERE IT SAY'S MS-DOS MODE SIMPLEY UNCHECK IT AND CLICK OK THEN CLICK APPLY. THIS SHOULD FIX YOUR PROBLEM.
