i have a zenith pc which having sis 650 motherboard. i am using usb keyboard and mouse. in windows both keyboard and mouse working fine. now i wants to format my harddisk and reinstall windows. but when i boot from a bootable floppy, the keyboard is not working. i can go to cmos setup by pressing DEL key and edit the settings usint the same keyboard. but in dos not working and i suspect that dos needs some driver for the keyboard. i search the web but didnot get any help. pls help me to solve the problem.

When I meet this incompatibility, I install my old PS/2 101/102 keys keyboard in the PS/2 keyboard port(remove the USB unit temporarily). This takes care of all problems that stem from keyboard incompatibilities using Windows(think of game programs) or dos programs. You can buy those keyboards used for as low as 1$ these days. Take the one with the small connector(the large connector was used on older motherboards).Check at the back of your PC: most motherboards still retain this port for compatibility reasons. Good luck.

The reason you are able to use this keyboard at the bios level and not DOS is that the Bios is actually a bunch of software programs written at the hardware level and then burned into a FlashRom. Dos does not have drivers built into it to allow USB support. Whereas Win95 verC does and so on with all the newer Windows OS's.
In order to make this all work you are going to have to get a spare keyboard $5.00 or less go to GoodWill you can pick them up for $2.00 either AT or Ps/2 without any messing around plug it in. Format/install whatever you have to do to get the OS up and running then plug in your USB keyboard and Mouse etc.
The only way I know of Sorry..
