Comment: I've searched the compaq site and other dos driver sites. Anyone know where I can find dos modem drivers for my compaq presario internal modem. I thought about using generic drivers but have been unsuccessful.

Reply: (edit)Windows uses a single modem driver. All programs under Windows uses that single driver. However, under DOS it is very different. There isn't a single modem driver. Each program has to "drive" the modem itself. So every DOS program you have that you want to be able to access the modem has to have it's own modem driver installed for your particular modem. This is one advantage that Windows has over DOS. Good luck. It's not an easy task using a modem in DOS. Also, please no comments from people who anally insist that there is no such thing as a driver in DOS. The term is widely used even if it isn't actually the best way to describe a modem configuration file.

Reply: (edit) No such thing as a dos modem driver. Modem connections are handled by the dos progam itself. Ex. Arachne.

Reply: (edit)Aaaarrrrgggghhhhh! I knew someone like Tim would have to comment! The use of the term "modem driver" to describe a DOS modem configuration file is widely used. Get used to it! You'll never stop it! It has a life of it's own!

Reply: (edit) Strange little known facts aside, if your modem won't work in DOS it is probably a Winmodem.
