Hi
I have a 486 Box, 33Mhz, 16Mb Ram. Would it be possible to install a Dos mail server on it.
A mail server that retrieves mail from my ISP's pop3 account, stores it on the 486, and when i open outlook on my pc (the Win XP one)my mail is retrieved from it.
In simple terms it lies between my PC and my ISP's mail server.Cheers

You are asking a lot here:
A DOS TCP/IP program to retrieve POP3 e-mail in a format to be retrieved later by a inter-computer connection by Windows XP to be read by 'Outlook Express'
More to the point will your ISP communicate with such a program?
This would seem to me to be hard to achieve, I hope I am wrong and that some solution is out there.
As a matter of interest why would you want to do such a thing in the first place?
When FREE Windows 9x/XP Anti-Virus and E-Mail Filtering Software such as AVG Anti-Virus (http://www.grisoft.com/) can filter messages for you.
Please reply with a message to let us all know we are on the right track...

Well yes I think you are right.
The reason I want to do this is because I have a 486 machine which i want to insert in my network to serve as something.
My other ideas was to make it act as a file server. I will not store any large files but just some word and excel files.
Would this at least be possible?
Thanks
