Hey all,
Ive been having this problem for a while. I was trying to learn C/C++ and had to give up because my DOS window shuts down and closes as soon as it has finished running a program. I would write/compile and run something. DOS would appear as it should but would close before I could even see the end result of the program on the screen.
I had no huge need to learn C/C++ I just wanted to.
Now however I am programming a huge site in PHP and Im running into the same problem with Apache. I understand that the DOS window is supposed to be open while Apache is running however it closes a split second after it opens and thus stops Apache from running.

Would you get the same error if you were to use a boot disk and run your programs from a boot disk dos prompt?Don't you think it is worth a try?You can download a Windows 98 SE or ME from bootdisk.com.The ME boot disk can reach much larger FAT 32 partitions on larger hard drives. The config.sys and autoexec.bat on these boot disks is menu based but can be modified to suit your needs for memory management etc. They also offer basic commands and tools, enough to run a dos program.Good luck.

...had Apache run under WinME ,PHP, SQL...
no errors like you discribe.
Maybe changing Apache-Version or PHP-Version
solve this?

Try creating a copy of the DOS prompt by copying the start menu link to the desk top. The open that DOS icon's properties (right click on it) and in its properties under the Progam properties un-check the "Cose on exit" option. Then open this DOS window to run the DOS prgorams.

Thanks for your replies. I tried them but to no avail :(

I have Apache / PHP / MySQL installed on my laptop but its just not up to any kind of development (too slow). I installed them side-by-side and did everything the exact same on both machines. I have pretty mych all the same programs running on both but the laptop works fine. The only problem is that I really need it to work on my PC. I have PWS installed on both machines and seems to have no conflicts (I have PWS disabled just to be sure)
Ahhhh Im pulling my hair out.
