I've got nothing against this forum (I was happy to find it!), but can anyone recommend any other "GOOD" DOS forums. I want to post a request for 'pain free' internet dos tools like: SLIP dialer, Graphical Web browser, mail reader, etc. (Pain free means it works out of the box. No tweeking and futsing around.)

As MS-DOS and compatable is virtually obsolete and the software was written in the days before true multi-tasking, therefore it is quite difficult to find 'out-of-the-box' software, I have emailed you a large zip file of a now defunct website which helped me a lot.

As to easy install software all I can point you too is Breadbox Ensemble aka GEOS, though it is aimed at Educational Use, with a little searching it should be feasible to buy, around $99.00:

http://www.breadbox.com

The only other Commercial Software which I believe is still supported is NeOS:

Also for Office Apps Easy Software is still sold, but have been unable to ascertain if it is still developed/supported:

Though in all honestly without tweaking it will be hard to run any version of 'MS-DOS or Compatable' O/S and Software, as to other forums - good luck there are none better than this one.................

DOS Internet Pages:

http://www.fdisk.com/doslynx/

http://browser.arachne.cz/mirrors.shtml

http://www.nettamer.net/tamer.html

A few of them work "out-of-the-box", but all of them will need to know the basics (phone#, DNS, etc.)

Hi,

I've been BBSing for ten years using DOS InterNet,
the main theme which kept me going was the dialer.

The closest thing to "Pain-Free" that i've seen is
`Arachne' but there are instances where its dialer
is as inadequate as any other. Your life would be
simpler if you could use an NIC instead of DialUp;
i shown on January 26 what `Arachne' is missing so
that more applications are supported, but in vain:

If cut-and paste operations followed by editing is
more than you can handle then i'd quit right there
because that's just the start of this adventure...

Salutations,
