You can not use an USB modem with DOS, you need an Hardware modem either ISA bus internal hardware type or a cheap and cheerful external serial connection hardware "Hayes" compatible Modem. Arachne and Nettamer will work with non "Hayes" compatible external, but earlier Dialler stacks require "Hayes" compatibility.

If you read the Arachne documentation some people have had success with PCI internal hardware modems!
