SYS C: <ENTER>
COPY COMMAND.COM C: <ENTER>
COPY CONFIG.SYS C: <ENTER>
COPY AUTOEXEC.BAT C: <ENTER>
C: <ENTER>
MD DOS <ENTER>
CD DOS <ENTER>
COPY A:*.* <ENTER>

Now you have to edit CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT to suit your needs.

Do you have the DOS setup disks or just a bootdisk?

The method outlined above merely makes the hard drive bootable - and I wouldn't recommend just copying files over like that.

'sys c:' copies command.com - no need to recopy it (although one upon a time you did need to)

The external DOS executables etc. are in compressed form, and need to be decompressed. The installation routine handles all of this.

Should be able to start the process by entering install at the A:\> prompt. Check your diskette for install.bat or .exe or setup - something of that nature (it's been a while)

It looks like you are very unfamilar with DOS. Are you really installing DOS6 on a Win2000 system?

If you have a working 3 Disk Install Set of MS-DOS 6.22 - When you boot with Disk 1 of 3 it should auto-start Setup.exe which will then display setup options!

Showing your OS as 2000 (Post below this does as well!)worries me as well. Is this the PC you are useing to post the message or the one you are trying to install DOS onto? Please clarify??

Please reply with a message to let us all know we are on the right track...

im using another computer right now with xp pro.

But the one im trying to install dos on has win 2000. I trying to make mutiple start option. (dont know the english) Swedish...

I have 2 partitions made with partition magic. One with win2k and the other is a empty fat 16bit hence the one I want dos on.
I have downloaded the 3 install disks from internet. But maybe i didnt put correctly one the floppys. They do not self extract when i try to boot from them. What to do???

Only the boot disk (of course) and possibly the 1st installation disk would be bootable.

There is no self-extraction, exactly - although the images you downloaded might have self-extracted to floppy disk - it sounds as if that went ok, since the disks now have volume labels (disk 1, disk 2 etc)

If 'disk 1' doesn't boot, use the bootdisk to start, then try inserting disk 1 and run setup.

DOS can only install on a "C:" drive - if upon booting from the floppy, the FAT16 partition is recognized as C: then likely the installation should proceed.

Ok - good.

I would think that the Win2k CD would be a bootable one - check your BIOS boot order to ensure that the CD precedes the hard drive in the boot sequence.

Further Win2K queries would likely be better addressed in that forum.

Good luck

Then you would need to setup the DOS drivers for the CD.

Most IDE CD drives will work with VIDE-CDD.SYS which is widely available, but there are a few 'universal' drivers. Possibly yours requires a specific driver (but probably not)

Some setup info here at PCGuide - although you may want to load everything 'high' if your system is configured for that.
