For the purpose of playing ancient games, i was going to use the dosbox emulator but was told that it runs a bit hard. So, i then decided that it might be better to partition my hd and make a separate ms dos system. However, i dont have a clue how i would install this system or even use it, especially since i dont have a floppy drive. If there is any advice or ideas you have, please tell me.
Would dosbox run alright?
Could i even install ms-dos?
Are there any alternatives?thanks for your help!

MS-DOS6.22 is not free, however IBM's PC-DOS 2000 can be downloaded in an ISO CD Image Format and installed from the created Bootable CD. MS & PC-DOS are very similar, but IMO PC-DOS is the better choice.

First you would need a Boot Loader as **-DOS is by default required to install on the C: partition. Try XOSL

M$ Support pages have a good article regarding multi-boot:

DOSBOX can not say, but M$ Virtual PC may be a better choice:

DOSBox should run fine on your system. I've got it on a 833MHz Dell (Win2K/256MB Ram) and never had any problems.
Once you install any OS "above" MS/PC-DOS, it makes it darn near impossible to come back and install it (DOS) later without special partitioning tools or having to manipulate boot sectors/devices...

Alternatively you can install FreeDOS - it comes as an installation cd - no need for a floppy.
