Can someone HELP ME PLEASE??? I have DOS, I need to install Windows on it... I have tried many attempts, and they have all failed. This is my last attempt at this before I quit! At the DOS startup screen I get C:/ if I try to type setup I get access denied. If I try to type setup.exe, I get access denied... I think I need step by step instructions... Can someone with PATIENCE HELP ME PLEASE HELP ME????

Please advise:-
a) which version of windows you are trying to install
b) what is your pc processor/memory
c) what media, windows is on (e.g. cd or floppy

Be advised that you windows is not compatible with Dos 6. Windows comes with Dos 7.

Maybe your DOS is not compatible with Windows. You can install MS-DOS 7.10 instead, since it should be fully compatible with almost all versions of Windows, like Win3.x/9x. More information is available here:

if I understand you right you said at the c prompt you type setup.if this is the case you need to be at the a:\ prompt then type setup, that is if installing from floppy disks.if you'll installing from a cd then you need to type setup at the cd-rom prompt.boot pc with a boot disk that has the cd-rom drivers on it.get one from www.bootdisk.com let us know what os that you want to install.

Everyone! At the DOS start up screen it says C:/ if I try to run A:/ is says not ready reading A:/ with options to Abort, Fail, Retry... Any help would be great!

Wth Dos.6 you can install Win.3.x and that might not work with a 286. You also might not have enough Ram - minimum 8mb required for W.98. Whatever you decide to do Good Luck.

Katrina, state the full command you are trying, if you get the abort, retry, .. message on A: , the disc could just be broken

katrina try another disk anything and see if a prompt comes up.if it do then like miskva said the disk is bad.what os are you trying to install
