Trying to work from a DOS environment, so i downloaded a boot disc. problem is: once im in DOS, the only drives i can access is floppy and CD. Do i need to add something in autoexec.bat?

Windows XP uses NTFS as a possible file system. It can also use Fat 32...
A normal Dos disk will not see either file system and thus will not allow you to access the drive.
Modern rescue disks that use Dos (Windows 98 EBD, Windows ME EBD, etc etc) can see the Fat 32 partition and will allow you to get into the drive.
None can access NTFS, and most XP installs are NTFS.
However, don't fret yet. Look on Google for DOS NTFS. I found a site that will allow you to access an NTFS drive... as for running anything... http://www.ntfs.com/products.htm
Hope this helps

Is C: detected at POST? If not, open up the case and check controller and power cables. Do you have any data on C:? If not, you'll need to format it and add system files to make it bootable, like this:
format c:/s
Hope this helps.

I don't believe that any default MS DOS environment
can access NTFS at all!, so for that U probably need
the special software that also "gt24" mentioned above...
-CLICK HERE- (optional click -HERE-). Good luck _:-)

i checked, and you're right. it's NTFS file system. so i downloaded the boot disc from ntfs.com and still no change. when i type c: at DOS it says something like 'invalid drive specification'. there's nothing more i need to do in autoexec.bat or config.sys? i checked the autoexec file and it only contains one line, and it has to do with the CD drive. i kind of suck at DOS, so it could be some simple problem.

Sorry I can't help U out much, have U tryed to
download >save on floppi & use from dos this
file: " NTFS Reader for DOS 1.0 " (136kb)??
