DOS errorlevels - what do they mean?

Can anyone tell me where to find the meaning of ERRORLEVEL values from DOS commands? I'm specifically looking for the values returned by COPY (what does ERRORLEVEL 1 mean!!?), but would like to know how to find other codes, too.
