dos editor is not open file

In my pc dos not open file or when i put the command on dos prompt it say bad command.
when I start my pc ,it is looking some program.exe file & say it is required for application extention to open file.
plz help me.

Well, a little more specific information would be helpful. DOS is dumb. It needs to be told where the program you want to run is located. So, to run the DOS editor you could type at the prompt: c:\dos\edit\filename.txt to open up the file in the editor. If that still doesn't work, the program may be corrupted or it may not be installed.

In the old versions of DOS--6.22 and before EDIT.COM was less than 1000 bytes long. It had to have QBASIC.exe in the same directory before it would work. So check that QBASIC.exe is in the DOS directroy if you have the 900 byte EDIT.COM.
