Hy,
I've got a problem:
My MS-DOS 6.2 does not boot (and I have only a start disk for W98). Where can I find the system files I must replace so that the PC can start.
Thanx very much!!!

Try www.bootdisk.com for dos 6.2 ...boot with the disk, and then type sys c: at the command prompt. If the boot disk doesn't have sys.com, try to change drives to c: after booting, and then look in your dos directory on c: for the file. Simply copy this file back to the bootdisk and reboot to repeat the process. If you don't have anything you want to keep, you can also format the drive with format c: /s, but you will lose all the dos files in c:\dos unless you back them up on disk first.

If you only want dos to later install windows, just copy all of the files from any version of windows in the c:\windows\command folder as this folder contains the basic files needed for booting and adding cdrom support.

It will depend what OS you used when you formatted c: with /s For example, if you orginally had dos 6.22, and you used a dos 3.3 bootdisk to format the drive as c: /s then your OS would be 3.3 likewise, if you used a win98 bootdisk to format c: /s you would overwrite 6.22 with dos 7.xx (not sure exactly what the minor is)

If you are asking what happens if you only issue format c: without the /s then you wouldn't be able to boot using the c: drive. In essance, you wouldn't have an OS just a blank formatted drive.

Hope it helps a little.

You will not be able to load dos 6.2 if use the /s switch with the win98 disk or a FAT32
partition.
