yeah? ive got proview but it wont let me write to the disk, its only read only. do i just have a s---e version?

Look for Norton Disk Editor as part of Norton Utilities 4 onwards

Thanks guys. What I am really after is "stand alone" DOS disk editor. I don't believe Norton DE is a stand alone program.

I've used one I downloaded from: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Sector/7256/ This one displays HEX or ascii values, addressable by sectors or filenames, and allows you to make changes. (It's similar to the old PC Tools disk editor.)
Actually, Norton Disk Editor will run in stand-alone mode, there's the executable, and a couple other files you need and you can put it on a dos bootdisk. It's very good!
