hi guys, a few messages back, a few people were looking for a reliable disk defrag program that runs under dos 5.0. well there are several available on simtel.net (click the above link). the one i like the most (it's very reliable) is the file "org30sw.zip".

I have found Norton Speed Disk which is part of Norton Utilities to be the best Disk Defragmenter. I found a copy of NU 4.5a on the MS-DOS page of Mick Cs excellant Powerload Site - www.powerload.fsnet.co.uk

Speed Disk like all other utilities can be used alone (SD.EXE) or from Norton Menu.

Indeed - but they were looking for one that runs under DOS 5....

I'd recommend Speeddisk too - fast and reliable. Used it for many years, along with DiskDoctor.

Thanks Rambler. At least you read the message. Yes W0rm I am aware that NU 4.5a does not support FAT32 But Windows 9x has its own defrag utility. MS-DOS 5.0 which also does not support FAT32 has not. And that is what asked for in the original message! Norton Utilities 4.5a is a compact version thats can be run directly from a single Floppy Disk, which later versions cannot do. SpeedDisk, Disk Doctor and other utilities still have a use for MS-DOS versions upto 6.22 (This is a DOS Forum!)

Its nice to see someone who comes back to say Thank You, Or even anything. I saw the posts on your other message that had nothing to do with your problem! I wish they would not do that.

You complemented NU's defrag util, and I have to admit, Norton Utils for DOS was a must have for older DOS versions. But my personal favorite was PC DOS 7's defrag util, I found it faster than anything I've ever seen. If I were using something lower than 6, I'd definately use NU's speedisk.

Are there any DOS defrag utilities which are compatable with FAT32?
