Can't get help file form dos prompt. dos commands don't work (edit,mem/a,etc..) (ver/r) gives the following info:
Windows 95. [version 4.00.1111] Revision A DOS is in HMA
anyoe know why i dn't have a help file and many dos commands don't work and returns. (bad command of file name) prompt upon entering? Discovered when tryingto edit config.sys and now editing in explorer. Huh?

I don't have dos help on my Win 95 machine either. As far as edit not working, maybe the file got erased and you need to replace it. Maybe you could also check to be sure the Windows\command directory is in the path.

You can find the some of the OLD DOS commands on your Win95 CD. If you have one.
The path is
D:\other\oldmsdos
Where D: is the letter to your CD-ROM drive. Just copy all of the commands to the
C:\windows\commands
folder on your harddrive.

Or you can download a more detailed set from the Win 9x page of my PowerLoad Resource Pages The files called OLDDOS.exe and it contains the MS-DOS 6.22 Help File you need.

If internal DOS commands such as copy do not work, COMMAND.COM may be corrupt. Copy the version on your startup disk to C: after changing the read only attribute. (Despite the attribute that has happened to me with Windows 98 2ed) Make sure you have the external DOS commands in the path. If you have them somewhere, recopy the entire Windows\Command directory.
