Subject: DOS CD rom driver help!!!OS: WIN98(tryin to install)CPU/Ram: ASUS P4S533 512 DDR |
Comment: Everything seems to be running fine when I boot up it's just I cant get my CD to run the WIN98 setup in DOS. I can get to my D:\ drive but everytime I type "setup" gives me the invalid command line.I've been tryin' new things everyday but just keep on getting more frustrated. I really need help!!!! OH yea I boot with my WIN98 setup disk in with my CD in too, then I pick boot with CD rom drivers. It detects my cd drives; I can get to the drives but cant access them to run anything!!

Reply: (edit)Those Compaq's have the bios on the HDD drive .,once you fdisk and format them .,unless you put back what you deleted from formating forget it., your not going to be able to do anything with them .,unless someone out there has found a way around this I've got the two disks for putting back this what they call factory information but I can't seem to make the 2mgs of HDD space they're referring to., the help section on this subject don't tell you to much either., I just wanted tell it how it is>>>>>Big Al

Reply: (edit)Hi. I put a 10 Gig drive in a 7 year old Compaq.
It originally had a 750 MB drive. I downloaded a utility from the drives manufacturer's website, called a drive overlay program. This allowed me to access the entire drive with multiple partitions and without having a Compaq bios on the drive. Take care,
Linda

Reply: (edit)Hi Big Al. Here is info on Overlay programs. - http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/bios/overDDO-c.html
I got Ontrack's Overlay with my hard drive.
When I boot the computer up Ontrack takes over so it doesn't need the Bios information. The computer than sees the entire hard drive even though the original Bios was limited to how big the hard drive could be. Take care, Linda
