Now that updates for Fprot are no longer available, is there a freeware DOS antivirus? I used to take an updated Fprot with me on a CD for use without booting into Windows.

If I recall correectly, AVG has a DOS version. It doesn't have a stand-alone intraller, but ships with the main package and is installed when you install the antivirus in some Win9x machine.

Hi you can use the Fprot still even though technical support and updates are not available for the dos version of f-prot antivirus. Just download the updates *.def from f-prot site extract them and replace the old ones with these. This is used to boot thru a cd or dos mode and scan the computer for viruses. I've it on my bootable cd which I use on my cd.

My understanding was that virus definitions were to be discontinued - though I made a mistake, thinking it had already happened.

I got my information from www.f-prot.com/download/signaturefiles.html
Is this not correct?
