Comment: Now that updates for Fprot are no longer available, is there a freeware DOS antivirus? I used to take an updated Fprot with me on a CD for use without booting into Windows. Terry@nz

Reply: (edit)If I recall correectly, AVG has a DOS version. It doesn't have a stand-alone intraller, but ships with the main package and is installed when you install the antivirus in some Win9x machine.

Reply: (edit)Hi you can use the Fprot still even though technical support and updates are not available for the dos version of f-prot antivirus. Just download the updates *.def from f-prot site extract them and replace the old ones with these. This is used to boot thru a cd or dos mode and scan the computer for viruses. I've it on my bootable cd which I use on my cd.

Reply: (edit)My understanding was that virus definitions were to be discontinued - though I made a mistake, thinking it had already happened. I got my information from www.f-prot.com/download/signaturefiles.html Is this not correct? Terry@nz
