Hello everyone.

I am wondering if you could install MS-Dos under Windows 98. My 98 is running FAT32 and
I know that Dos 6.22 can't handle that but is there ANY way I could make DOS read FAT32.
If not i have another question, will it work if i reformat a part of my harddrive in FAT16 format and then install Dos 6.22 there.
Then my vision includes being able to choose harddrive and operative system when starting up the computer. I really need Dos 6.22 because Dos 7.1 can't run some applications that I have. I would be very greatful for an answer to this question.

Meanwhile, have a great day.

/Gunnar

Hi,

1. There is no way to use DOS 6.22 with FAT32.

2. Your next suggestion is more realistic. If you format your 1st partition - C: drive - to FAT16 you will be able to install DOS 6.22 on it and dual boot it with Win98. I have such configuration at home and it works. But of course booting into DOS 6.22 you woudn't have access to other FAT32 partitions.

Good luck, Igor m

Look into fitting a Drive Caddy. I have 2 Hard Drives 1 for MS-DOS/Windows 3.1 and the other for Windows 98SE I have found this to be the best longterm answer to my problem. This may not be the solution for all users, but it works for me.

FAT32 and older versions of MS-DOS do not mix. FAT16 Dual Booting does work in most PCs
Take your pick.

so what is wrong with switching between operating systems on the fly?.
Here is a scenario. You are in the middle of adobephoto shop operating under win98 and you press a hot key and now you are in the middle of a linux or unix application, all done without rebooting. A peice of cake.

Hi Gunnar,

A simple solution, just boot from a Dos 6.22 floppy disk (loaded with all drivers i.e. CD Rom etc etc.) and then run your Dos applications from there. If you have access to a CD writer/burner then make a CDrw for your Dos applications just to separate from your hard drive. Boot from CD Rom & run your Dos applications.

Any-one see any draw-back in this procedure. Please post your feed back. Thanks
