Hello,
I checked out Dosbox yesterday. It's a cool program and I already have windows 3.11 up and running on it. I'm looking to install DOS 6.22 now. Is there a way to install dos from a cd? I have an image that I burned onto a cd, but when I run setup, it says to install floppy 1. I don't even have a floppy drive on my system. Is there a way to bypass this? All the files that I need are on the cd. Plz help.

One more question,
why does microsoft put an "_" in the last letter of the file extension? for exallmple "gorilla.bas" looke like this: "gorilla.ba_".Please sit back and relax while Windows 98 installs on your computer.

DOS 6.22 has some utilities that dosbox doesn't. For example, the attrib command does nothing in dosbox. I don't have a 386 anymore, and want the dos experience to be as true as possible.

You can dual boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306559
or install M$ Virtual PC2007, which like DOSBOX is Windows software.
Regards MS-DOS CD, easier to buy a USB Floppy Drive!May I also remind you that all Microsoft Software is Licensed however obsolete we may think it is....... and not warez/freeware etal

MWCC,
Yeah, I will probably get a usb floppy drive and go that route.
I'm also aware that DOS will probably never be abandonware, no matter the age. M$ is and will always be tight.
Any ideas about my second question? Please sit back and relax while Windows 98 installs on your computer.

The underline as the last character of the file extension means it's a compressed file. The installation procedure will expand it. A file can be manually expanded with the EXPAND command.
The prompting for successive disks, I think, comes from the DOSSETUP.INI file. Editing that file or maybe just renaming it so it isn't accessed may allow you to install from cd.

the files that end in _ are compressed files for setup so the files take less space on the disks.
When you run setup it deflates the files so they can be useable.

No you said expand, he said deflate.
Hope that helps. :)
