My Dos 6.2 crashed. Have 4.0 Dos and 6.2 upgrade. Have attempted to load Dos 4 but after the first diskette is almost through loading, get a message that I need to insert a 2.0 MB diskette to copy what I just loaded. When I insert the diskette, I keep getting error message that the diskette is bad...so far have tried 3 dos formatted diskettes (all I have and had them for a while) Is there a way to skip this step so I can continue with the 2nd dos 4 diskette or where can I now find some new 2.0 MB diskettes. Seems they're hard to find these days.

Its interesting that the disks you have don't work Bonnie.
Tried IBM Dos 4 a while back and it worked fine with 1.44 disks(by the way I believe these are 2.0 megs "unformatted").
It may be better(easier) just to get a bootdisk from bootdisk.com. Use it to "Format c: /s" the drive then use your MS Dos 6.2 upgrade disks.
Let us know how you get on. Good luck.

A DOS posting by Rose on 3-1-02, mentions that DOS 6.22 is available for download at: valiant-it.co.uk/downloads/downdos.htm.

1.44 Mbyte floppy disks are not hard to obtain which is what you really want. They are 2.0 unformatted as mentioned before. All you need to use your 6.2 upgrade is to SYS C: with any previous version. Try to borrow someone's boot disk for that if you cannot get the boot files from MS-DOS 4.00 on there. They are two hidden files, IO.SYS and MSDOS.SYS and the visible file, Command.Com. (Be sure all these files are from the same source--version of DOS)

You could use MS-DOS 6.22 without problems instead.
Summary: A version of MS-DOS 4.0 was released to Europe for a brief period of time with multitasking capabilities but was pulled off the market not too much later. I wouldn't mind having a copy to test out. An...
