MS-DOS (and PC-DOS) 4.0 had so many bugs in it even Microsoft was forced to withdraw it! Look for MS-DOS 4.01 or better! Leave version 4.0 well alone..

MS-DOS was version 4.00. IBM-DOS was version 4.01. They were very similar. You can download MS-DOS 4.00--mistakenly listed as 4.01 from HTTP://WWW.MSDOS.4T.COM.

Why in the world do you want dos 4.0?
I've met a lot of people new to computing that bought software and read the System Requirements on the side of the box, and thought they needed dos 4.0 or 6.0 or whatever.
They thought they needed to down grade their dos version to run the software.

Both Microsoft (MS-DOS 4.0) and IBM (PC-DOS 4.0) released bugged versions of DOS 4.0. IBM only released it in Eurupe (Lucky us!)Then replaced it with version 4.01 very soon afterwards. IBM exchanged it one for one, which would explain why so few copies have been seen. I have never come across a copy of PC-DOS 4.0, and have only seen a very few copies of MS-DOS 4.0
