they are both crap. Win '95 is definitely better, though..Unless you want to install/configure and run device drivers for large disks and still have 16bit fat, plug and play/media managers/win32s for 32 bit programs (buggy),short filenames, etc.
Either way, you have crap, but '95 is better crap. I suppose it all depends on your needs and hardware.

Troy, Perhaps I can be helpful.
1. Win95 makes greater demand on memory than win3.1. This is significant on 386/486 range;
2. Win 95 uses more disk spce, but also win95 programs tend to be bigger, sometimes to achieve the same result;
3. Win95 has somewhat easier/ more intuitive user-interface, so better for Joe and Jane average, but win3.1 pretty good with a bit of practice, and better if you learn how to use the underlying dos command line (my 12yo daughter uses win3.11 comfortably);
4. Win95 programmes are easier to get, esp. in shops; win3.1 programs and graphic dos programmes still readily available on the net;
5. Win3.1 and dos programs tend to be cheaper, because older and obsolete;
6. Support for win3.1 is poor, esp. from MS;
7. If you want programs with modern, animated graphics, they generally aren't available for win3.1. Also, not many internet tools for win3.1.
8. However, the range of general applications, utilities and non-animated games for win3.1 is good.
Cheers

Perhaps I can offer something useful.
1. Win95 demands more memory than win3.1, so if memory short, favour 3.1.
2.Win95 requires more disk space, and win95 programs tend to be bigger too, often without being better.
3.Win95 has better support, esp. from MS.
4.Win95 programs easier to get, esp. in hard versions. Win3.1 programs still readily available on the net.
5.Applications for win95 tend to be more sophisticated in graphics and other modern bells and whistles (which accounts for the extra memory demands and disk space).
6. Win3.1 applications cheaper because older.
7.Win95 GUI easier/more intuitive than win3.1 - but win3.1 good with practice, and better if you learn to use the dos command line.
8.Win95 more trendy - if your daughter is using win3.1, she'll tell you how everyone at school has win95 or 98, and how you should buy her a new computer.
It's your choice - best of luck.
Peter

Windows 3.1 is the better than Windows 95 because you can get 32 emulators that make you able to run windows 98/98 software. windows 3.1 requires 1mb of ram to run but more is reconmended about 2mb is good. windows 95 requires 4mbs and is rec. to use 8mb my favorite is windows 3.1 i run this on my pentium computer with 24 megs of ram and it runs at awesome speeds. You can also replace the shell or desktop with 16bit alternate shells. So sick with the best win 3.11.
