I'm running win98 and bought a canon bjc-2000sp printer. I can print windows-based application, but was unable to print from DOS, for example, from "EDIT autoexec.bat". Does anyone knows if BJC-2000SP supports DOS or not? I went to Canon's website and found nothing that mention DOS, the closest was Win3.1. Please help ....

Hello!
Okay, any printer should print from a DOS prompt. As long as it is plugged into LPT1 on your computer, you should get DOS printing without trouble. However, go into My Computer, Printers folder, and then right click on your printer listed. Choose Properties at the bottom, and then Details at the top. Make sure it is printing to the LPT1 port. If it is setup to do so, exit Windows in MSDOS mode and then once there, type the following command--
dir >lpt1
That will tell the computer to try printing to the LPT1 port by sending a directory listing to the printer. If it doesn't work with these settings, there is something wrong.
Thanks, and have a great week!

I do having a same problem on printing on dos. I try exit in MSdos and type "dir > lpt1". It still nothing coming out from printer. Windows setting everything is correct.
Anybody have any suggestion ?Lawrence

Rotten thing won't do basic text-mode printing at all - in the their infinite wisdom, canon appear to have removed that most basic of printing functionality - the ability to print plain, vanilla, ASCII text direct to the port...
Caught me out big time, trying to get a BJC-2000SP to print under Linux (you need enscript installed, basically, which converts plain text into a graphic-mode version which then prints fine...)
