My system would hang it's self up befor loading windows 95 so I tryed to boot with each line being verified and got the divide overflow error. I then downloaded DOS 6.22 and tryed to boot from that and again got the Divide overflow error. Can someone give me a lead as to how to go about geting the computer to boot in anything.

Just a thought. I have had a system whose hard disk controller was apparently bad, and it would give me a divide overflow error, although not at boot up. Usually it would do this after I used the system for a while. I tried disabling the IDE in Cmos, and this cured the problem (but, of course I couldn't use the hard disk). Maybe if you disabled the IDE (you would have to boot from a floppy) and the error went away, this might isolate the source of the problem. Eventually, I was able to use the system by installing an ISA IDE card.

I just brought a brand new machine with no OS on it- the first day with my new pc: when I try to boot up from ANY boot disk, including the 4 win2k disks, I get a "your program has caused a divide overflow error if problem persists contact your vendor" - I'm not fussed because I know this machine is under warranty, but I would like to know what the problem is so I can stick it up that greedy salesman's ass!

I think I have found the problem for the "your program caused a divide overflow error" (at least my problem).

I had recently upgraded to Windows Me and started having this problem. I couldn't figure out what was wrong. Someone referred me to this site & after reading the message that was referred from AYEXBY (above) from Alex C about installing a SCSI card for a "Umax" scanner my mind starting working. I also have a Umax scanner Astra 600S. I then went to www.umax.com and did some research. Apparently the SCSI card that came with Umax 600S scanner and a few other models is not compatible with Windows Me & they do not seem to have any future plans of remedying the problem.

I disconnected my scanner & got rid of the Vistascan programs that came with it & I no longer have the "divide overflow error" but unfortunately I cannot use my scanner. The scanner did work with Windows Me but it seemed to cause this problem.

So maybe there are other older model scanners, printers, etc that are not compatible with Windows Me.

I hope this message helps someone else out there that is very frustrated with this problem.
