Hi DOS users:
Was working on some old DOS PCs for public school, can't remember if there's a command to copy from a 1.22mb (5.25 drive) to a 1.44 (added newer 3.5 a: drive). The diskcopy b: a: only seams to work with same drive types. Also for my infomation what's the command for 720kb to 1.44mb (3.4 drive) also.Much thanks,
Z

Hi
There is'nt a discopy command to copy between different disk formats, so your best bet is to use xcopy which will copy the files and directory structure to another disk.
Just type xcopy /? to see the list of options.

DiskCopy needs the source and destination floppies to be the same type. So you can't make a bare volume copy between different media. You can otherwise copy the files using the Copy command. In other words if you want to transfer installation diskettes from one volume type to another there is no a straight way to accomplish this task. To simply copy files is a nutshell.

Do not use diskcopy. I you are simply wanting to copy files across, then use copy or xcopy. However, Xcopy does not copy hidden files, while diskcopy does.
Also, check the config.sys file, and see if there is a command such as :-
DEVICE=DRIVER.SYS [with parameters]
If so, remove his and the PC may "see" both drives as the same size, in which case Diskcopy may work.
Safe Computing...:o)

What I used to use is FastLynx in Local Mode. Open Drive A in one window & Drive B in the other. Highlight the files and start copy. FastLynx (or LapLink) are not only for PC to PC file copies but local drive or directory copying as well.
You can download a copy of FastLynx 2.0 for free from the PowerLoad DOS Resource Page (Link above) with full permission from Sewell Development.
Please reply with a message to let us all know we are on the right track with your problem

vgacopy is a dos diskcopy program for 1.2 Mo to 1.44 Mo.

Good luck.

Petit Jean - I think you will find that vgacopy has to have both input and output floppys in the same format.
e.g.
diameter/sides/density must be the same.
Good luck - Keep us posted.
