Comment: What does this mean? I get this error in dos 6.2 when my machine boots & then it halts. I am thinking the hard drive is bad. Could this be the cause of this error?

Reply: (edit)your hard drive may be bad or not properly setup (power & ribbon cables both securely attached & the disk jumpered to be a Master) or the parameters are not set up properly in the BIOS (cylinders, heads, sectors)

Reply: (edit) Boot with a floppy and type FDISK. It will give you more information. "Disk read Error" or something along that line probably means the drive is bad. "NO drive present" suggests the cable is not on or the power is not applied to the drive but it could be a bad drive also. If your computer is 486 or earlier, it will not have auto detect of the HD, so check in the bios that some number of cylinders, heads and sectors is shown. You have to enter these manually if you lose CMOS battery voltage.
