I have a problem, the computer recognize my disk on the setup, but it doesn`t boot from the hard disk. So, i tried booting from a floppy disk, and when I do that, I can read and write on my hard disk, it`s so weird. I have windows98, so i went to the windows`s folder, then to win.com and I got the blue screen:
VFAT DEVICE INITIALIZATION FAILED
A device or resource required by VFAT is not present or is unnavailable. VFAT cannot continue loading.
System halted.

Hope somebody to help me.Thanks.

martin/raska - do you not think that the Windows 98 forum would be a more appropriate place for your question?

It will definitely receive more attention there than here.

I dont think so, becouse its not a windows problem.
the problem is that the computer doesn`t recognize the hard disk to boot.

You cannot load Windows when starting from a 'standard' boot floppy - likely that is the source of the VFAT error message.

Assuming the drive is correctly recognized in the BIOS, then you may want to try entering

sys c:

after booting from the diskette, to restore the boot files to the HDD.

There may be other issues - your odds of resolving this are much better in the right forum, but suit yourself.

Anyone 'over there' would have given you similar advice.

Posts here in the 'old' DOS pages don't really get much exposure.
