ok, i replaced my 650 mb hard drive in my compaq prolinea 575 with a western digital 10 gb drive. Everytime i turn on the computer, after doing a memory test, it says:
1709 - Disk 0 Error
Due to this error I cant formated this drive. What should i do?

Could it have something to do with the fact that the older Prolinea's only supported up to 2GB drives. Check the system specifications. Maybe there is a BIOS upgrade to support larger the 2GB drives.
Are the jumpers on the drive set correctly? The same as the old drive.

You need drive overlay software to recognise the drive, it is beyond the Prolinea's BIOS to understand this type of drive, try:

OnTrack Disk Manager

I suggest that you get a hard drive controller card. Most controller cards now can support 10GB and up, also they come with there own BIOS. This may or may not fix the problem.
The first thing that you should do is return the hard drive and get another one. Sometimes it could be the hard drive itself that is giving you the problems (it happen to me before).
Also make sure that the settings in CMOS are right. Instead of doing automatic setup you should manually set it up yourself by looking at the settings on your hard drive (it should be labled on the top).
Sorry if I can't be of more help...

Frankie

Well the Ontrack Dis Manager program did not help. Infact, it detected errors on the drive. I think I'm just going to put in the old Connor 650 mb drive back in. This Western Digital 10 GB drive was laying around in my dads office for 3 years and he brought it home to me to see if i could use it. he said a customer returned it i think because of a problem. so that could be why. Yeah I agree that the drive is too big for the Prolinea BIOS to recognize. Thanks for all your help though.

On any old machine, a newer drive controller card makes a lot of sense. Usually in addition to a new bios you also get faster uart and parallel chips.
I always liked the SIIG brand.
