I have a Dell laptop, which uses config.tsh instead of config.sys (which, I think, does not alter my problem. When I boot, I get the message that the first line of my config.sys file is not recognized (or cannot be read). My config.sys file essentially says its really the config.tsh file. The config.tsh file has a few REM statments, then it says device=c:\windows\setver.exe That's it. There is nothing else in the config.tsh file at all. So, I don't understand why this file only has one statement (except for REM), and also why when I boot, I get the message the first line cannot be recognized. Please help. My computer runs OK so far, so the problem does not appear to be major, at least so far. the file setver.exe is in the windows directory. Thanks in advance for your help.

It's probably pretty safe to rem out or remove the setver line - if you do ever need it, you'll probably have to configure it for the particular program that wants it. The error message refers to the Very First line of the config.* (whether it's executed or not) - which may very well have a typo. Win9x won't care much about config.sys (or whatever) so long as you don't require any DOS settings. You might try renaming the file (config.*) and see if there's any change.

I know the tool msconfig.exe copies autoexec.bat and config.sys to *.tsh when they have been disabled within the tool. You might want to try renaming config.tsh to config.sys (backing up the current one to config.bak or whatever). Hope this helps
