Comment:

I have reformatted my HardDrive and do not have the driver for it.
I downloaded the Oakcdrom driver as a generic one to work with MSCDEX.exe.

But I consistently get :
Device Driver not found: 'MSCD001'
No valid CDROM device drivers selected

Autoexec.bat looks like:
C:\CDROM\MSCDEX.exe /D:MSCD001 /L:D

Config.sys looks like:
DEVICEHIGH=C:\CDROM\OAKCDROM.sys /DMSCD001

I have notice on this site others with similiar problems but with no good results.
Does this method not work.

Also, you can see the CDROM lite trying to access before the error message comes. So it is getting to it but then comes up with the above error message.

HELP

DEVICEHIGH=C:\CDROM\OAKCDROM.SYS /D:MSCD001
Can this driver be loaded successfully when
you start DOS?

"Config.sys looks like:
DEVICEHIGH=C:\CDROM\OAKCDROM.sys /DMSCD001"

Config.sys should look like:
DEVICEHIGH=C:\CDROM\OAKCDROM.sys /D:MSCD001

And Autoexec.bat should look like:
C:\CDROM\MSCDEX.exe /D:MSCD001

Remove the /L: and let the system assign the drive letter.

You may need a specific driver and especially if the drive connects to a soundcard. If it is an IDE compatible the Oak drivers should work but very rarely they don't.

indeed, loading MSCDEX for a cd-rom wont succeed before the SYS file is loaded for a cd-rom with the same name

seems like you just mistyped the name, if not, check location of the sysfile itself

As rondroid states;
Does your data cable from the CD connect to a sound card or other small single-use (only one cable going to it) ISA card? If so it's a proprietary CD. IDE drivers won't do anything for you if it's not an IDE CD-ROM.

Can you find the make/model of the cd (and interface card if there is one) and post it? I have drivers for two such cd's/cards. (Old systems, I mean OLD.) Goldstar and Mitsumi. They're (drivers) getting harder to find. If you need them, and can't find them, I could zip them and send them to you.

you typed the following twice:
"Config.sys looks like:
DEVICEHIGH=C:\CDROM\OAKCDROM.sys /DMSCD001"

Is there a typing error? it should also be /D:MSCD001 instead of /DMSCD001

If not, just ignore my post ;-)

Jay-Jay, if it's my post (#2) you're talking about, the second part says "SHOULD look", and it's the missing colon after the device label I was referring to.

I had the MSCD001 Device not found blah blah blah......my boot disk was fine...so there must have been something else that was wrong.

I went into the BIOS..saw that the CDROM wasn't detected....I changed IDE cables...and *poof* ...it was recognized and the CDROM drivers from the floppy worked fine and then I installed Win9X

Good Luck

alright I am having a problem with my CDROM. when I try to run the autoexec thing it says that thing with the MSCD001. I have the driver for hte cdrom. I will try to see if there is a problem with the files. like if I should add that colon or whatever. also it plugs into the soundcard and it has that fat cable deal going on. what should I do to get this thing working?
