I'm looking to delete files that are older than 3 days. The file names are in the form '2003.06.17.xxxxx.xxx'. I found a message in reference to this (http://www.computing.net/dos/wwwboard/forum/12931.html) which referred to the following link (http://www.computing.net/dos/wwwboard/forum/12424.html) but it no longer exists.

Can anyone help?

thanks,
Lana

Hi Lana;

I noticed, that even though you posted this in a DOS forum, your OS is Windows NT and the file name is NOT in the typical DOS 8.3 format. Is this something you want to accomplish from within Win NT? Also, will all these files be in one folder, or spread out all over the computer?

In the meantime, if it is NT, and they will be in one folder, simply open Windows Explorer, go to the folder in question, select the "details" view, then click on the "date" bar at the top of the file listing window. Each time you click it, the files will sort from oldest to newest, and vice-versa. This makes it easy to select all the files older or newer than a specific date and delete them.

Of course, if the above two conditions aren't so, that won't work. Post back and let us know.

Check your mailbox, I am sending you a batch to fit your need.
It is too long and complex to be posted.
See the message carefully and if you need more support post again or e-mail me.

Hey Lana; Actually, the question is whether or not you are doing this on a Win NT machine. It just changes the way a batch file would be written.

If you could answer that, I could probably help. :-)
