I have a Laptop which has only dos 3.1 on it and this notebook has only a floppydrive.
I am trying to install WIndows on it.
The Notebok has an USB port as it has only dos installed on it,we cannot use the USB port to connect toa cd-drive.
I bought a crossover cable and tried to connect both my Notebook with me desktop .
I ran the Laplink progam on both the m/c >i thought after u run the program on the desktop ,u can see my notebook from it but I am not..
AM i doing something wrong?Pls help

You have to set LapLink to Remote Transfer on both machines. Sounds to me like they are set to Local Transfer.

G'day,
Not to sure what you are saying, but this may help. The software- laplink/fastwire/ or whatever needs to be set up in as master/ slave (or client / server). So check that this is so ie one machine will say master (or server)and the other will say slave (this is the one you are sending files to)or client.
It sounds like you have the hardware correct, but just to make sure:
There are two ways of doing this
1 serial connection- this is the null modem cable you talked about in your other post- and will be connected between the repective COM ports of each machine.
2 Parallel connection- I believe laplink supports this also- and the cable will be connected between the respective printer (or parallel/ lpt1 etc) ports of each machine.
This is a much, much faster method of file transfer.
With all that set up you should be ready to go...good luck
