I just want to play it safe as I still don't have a cd drive yet., I want to know how to copy in dos the win cab files only off my win 95 using my Pentium as I have the startup disk and later I want span these on a bunch of 144 floppies .,I don't want to take the cab files of the C: HDD of the other computer as they may be screwed up .,let me know if this can be done the cab files were the only files that were put on the HDD after I brought it back from the shop I don't want to delete before I have a backup as I know what to after these are back on., it was quite simple I have all the instructions writtin down and when I done this it started setup just as if I had the cd rom drive D:> Simple I think that's all that was on it just the cab files there are two hidden files I think but if I'm wrong about this I have broad shoulders Ha Ha .... Thanks.. Big Al

Suggest you check out PKZIP and PKUNZIP from PKWARE.

The dos versions have a high degree of selectivity, output to floppy disc(s), spanning and/or formatting if required.

As a matter of interest, where are you based? I am in Hammersmith, West London.

Also how big is big?

You could transfer the cab files using a serial or parallel cable to connect both machines and run a simple DOS file transfer program.

To create Win95 floppies from CD you will need a program that will format 1.44mg floppies to 1.72mg(SuperFormat). A trial WinImage is availably at www.bootdisk.com.
Then copy the following files from the Win95 directory of the CD to 28 of these disks:

disk 1-
deltemp.com
dossetup.bin
extract.exe
format.com
layout.inf
layout1.inf
mini.cab
msinfo.inf
oemsetup.bin
oemsetup.exe
precopy1.cab
save32.com
scandisk.exe
scandisk.pif
scanprog.exe
setup.exe
smartdrv.exe
suhelper.bin
wb16off.exe
winsetup.bin
xmsmmgr.exe

disk 2-
precopy2.cab
win95_02.cab

The rest are the win95_**.cab files corresponding to the disk number. IE
disk 3=win95_03.cab
disk 4=win95_04.cab
and so on

Be sure to use good floppies because I've tried this and spent more time rewriting disks because of read errors than installing.

Good Luck

Don't do the super format thing. #1 the files will be too big to fit on the disk #2 it will cause the disks to be unstable because the data is easeily corrupted. the floppies are still good but the information goes bad very easily the transfer thing is easy. you will need Laplink which is a very simple program. if you can use windows u can use laplink. make sure you get it for dos. or you can get a file splitter that will break the file into peices big enough to write to floppies. search for GFsplit or Gotez's file splitter on google.
