i installed arachne and when i booted it said "no network interface available." Do I need to install linkys driver to msdos?? very confused.

Are you using Arachne over a network or just a dial up connection through the modem on the computer that Arachne is installed on?

Crystal, you probably need a couple of
small DOS drivers to get on the Internet in
DOS over ATÞBroadband, I'm doing this as
a "best guess" though. All my experience
has been with dialup modems. Anyway, you
will need a packet driver to connect your
cable modem or DSL whichever you have to
the ATT server, then you'll need a TCP/IP
stack to translate. Try a couple of sites,
www.crynwr.com has drivers and pkt shims,
and here's a site with ISDN and ASDL
drivers
http://home.foni.net/~hanewin/disdn-e.htmAlso, you might be able to use one of those
to connect Arachne to ATT, then use either
PPPD.EXE from DOSPPPD or maybe WZPPP (a
TCP/IP stack I created) to do the socket
TCP/IP translating. DOSPPPD and WZPPP are
available from my SurfBest site
http://members.surfbest.net/wizard57m@surfbest.net/index.htmThen, once you get those drivers connected,
start Arachne, press "O" (letter oh) to get
to the options page, click on TCP/IP setup,
then choose "resident packet driver", then
choose either BOOTP/DHCP or LANTCP...if you
choose LANTCP you will have to edit the
file LANTCP.CFG with a text editor, such as
EDIT.COM, and put in your network settings,
DNS, your IP address, network server IP
etc.
Let me know if that helps!

Crystal,
I should also mention that Arachne contains
drivers for a few NICs (network interface
cards), when you extract the installer, it
will place them in a subdirectory, normally
in /arachne/system/devdrvrs
If by chance you have a NIC you might be
able to use one of these drivers to connect
Arachne. If you do, I'm pretty sure you
will need to use the "LANTCP.CFG" setup I
mentioned above. I would also mention that
Arachne usually runs better when you boot
your computer into DOS, although a few
users have managed to use it in a DOS box
while running Windows 9X (95, 98, 98SE etc)
Myself, I usually run it in plain DOS...if
you need help getting your computer to boot
to DOS, send me an email.
Good luck!

Almost forgot...the other directory that
the Arachne extractor will put those packet
drivers into is /arachne/system/pktdrvrs...I'm not sure if ATÞBroadband will allow
any connection other than some Win9X
though. It's worth a try...if ATÞdoesn't
allow connecting from plain DOS, you might
need to try in a DOS box while running
Win9X...If I think of anything else I'll post a
follow-up!C U L8R!
